Thomas Kruse has stepped down as chief strategy officer of Tacoma, Wash.-based Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.

“After more than a decade back in the Northwest, I made the decision earlier this year to resign from my role and intentionally create the rare opportunity to pause, reflect, and re-align my career toward the enterprise-level strategy and transformation work I’ve loved most over the past 30 years,” Mr. Kruse said in a Nov. 16 LinkedIn post.

He joined then-CHI Franciscan Health in 2015 as senior vice president and chief strategy officer, and held the same position at VMFH following the 2021 merger of CHI Franciscan and Virginia Mason. He described his time with Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health as “among the most rewarding” of his career.

Mr. Kruse previously served as chief strategy officer at Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health, Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash., and Gary, Ind.-based Methodist Hospitals, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“I’ve set a goal not to make any permanent next-step decisions until early 2026, and I plan to use this fall and holiday season to reconnect with family, reflect on the last decade, and prepare for the next chapter,” he said.
