Mr. Dubis said he is in the early stages of the disease, but insisted on retiring out of concern his diagnosis might impair his ability to lead the organization, according to the report.

Mr. Dubis joined St. Elizabeth Healthcare in 2007 as COO and has held the CEO title since 2011. Garren Volvin, COO of the system, was named interim CEO.
