Pennsylvania system names chief medical officer

Butler, Pa.-based Independence Health System has named Michael Fiorina, DO, chief medical officer. 

Dr. Fiorina has spent nearly 30 years in clinical and administrative roles. He most recently served as CMO for Independence Health System’s Butler and Clarion regions, according to a June 11 news release. Prior to that, he was the vice president of medical education at Butler Health System, which merged with Excela Health to form what is now Independence Health System in 2023. 

Throughout his tenure at the organization, Dr. Fiorina has led efforts to expand graduate medical education programs and support staff governance.

He succeeds Carol Fox, MD, who is retiring as CMO.
