Oklahoma City-based OU Health has appointed Michael Steiner, MD, as chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City and clinical service chief of pediatrics, effective in December.
In his dual role, Dr. Steiner will oversee the department’s clinical, research and educational missions, according to an Oct. 22 health system news release shared with Becker’s. He most recently served as professor of pediatrics, executive vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics and pediatrician-in-chief at UNC Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C.
During his nearly 20-year tenure in North Carolina, Dr. Steiner recruited more than 45 pediatric specialists, directed three clinical divisions, developed a regional campus with more than 80 pediatric subspecialists and built more than 30 affiliated partnerships. His research has secured more than $20 million in external funding, the release said.
Dr. Steiner will succeed Robert Katz, MD, who is retiring after decades of leadership at the health system. As department chair and clinical service chief, Dr. Steiner will also help lead Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health.
