John Woodland, vice chairman of the hospital board, told the Missoulian he couldn’t reveal the reason for Mr. Carty’s suspension and whether or not it was the hospital board’s action. He said current employees are overseeing day-to-day activities in Mr. Carty’s absence.
Mr. Carty became the subject of criticism after he fired George Bailey as the hospital’s director of business development in July, prompting Mr. Bailey to accuse him of nepotism, according to the report. Earlier this year, an investigation showed Mineral Regional Health Center improperly administered a $10.5 million federal healthcare grant.
Mr. Bailey applied for the innovations grant and served as its co-director, according to the report. Mr. Carty was CEO of both the hospital and health center at the time. He stepped down from the health center last month because of demand for more of a separation between the two healthcare facilities, according to the report.
