Michael Johnston. COO of Union General Hospital (Atlanta, Ga.). Mr. Johnston, 39, began his career with Union General Hospital in 2007 as a security guard. Through hard work and dedication, he quickly rose through the ranks to become COO. In this role, he helps to oversee nine healthcare facilities and more than 1,000 employees. In 2009, he was given the challenging task of managing the implementation of a new and complete EHR system for two of the system’s healthcare facilities. Under his direction, UGH is currently in its second year of Stage 2 Meaningful Use attestation. In 2014, Mr. Johnston was instrumental in improving the financial position of the organization by pulling together a group of key decision-makers and fostering a culture of collaboration. He holds a degree in business administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee.
