Paari Gopalakrishnan, MD, has been appointed president and CEO of Towson, Md.-based GBMC HealthCare, effective in September.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan currently serves as president and COO Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I., part of Providence, R.I.-based Care New England, according to a July 8 GBMC news release.

He will remain in the role through mid-September to assist with the leadership transition, Care New England said in a July 9 news release shared with Becker’s.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan joined Kent Hospital in 2009 as director of the inpatient medical group. He was named chief medical officer in 2018 and stepped into his current role in 2022, the Care New England release said.

During his tenure, Dr. Gopalakrishnan helped launch Rhode Island’s first hospital-at-home program, oversaw the centralization of medical staff offices across three hospitals and led the system’s visiting nurse association.

At GBMC, he will succeed John Chessare, MD, who is retiring after 15 years at the health system.

GBMC HealthCare includes Greater Baltimore Medical Center, a 257-bed acute care hospital, and GBMC Health Partners.
