Aaron Garofola, CEO of UofL Health’s Shelbyville, Ky., campus, has been dismissed from his role, according to an Oct. 29 report from The Sentinel-News.
Mr. Garofola is no longer with the organization, and Annessa Baker, BSN, RN, chief administrative officer and chief nursing officer, is now leading the hospital, David McArthur, public relations director for Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health, told Becker’s.
Mr. McArthur said UofL Health, the hospital’s parent organization, “is implementing a leadership redesign to streamline the decision-making process, reduce duplication and better enable a focus on system access, safety and quality and the patient experience.”
The impact of the redesign was limited to seven positions across the system, he told The Sentinel-News, though he did not identify the other six.
“We believe this redesign, emphasizing systemwide leadership, versus individual facilities, will leverage our strength and opportunities as a system,” Mr. McArthur added.
Mr. Garofola joined the hospital’s leadership team in 2019 from Fort Wayne, Ind., where he served as CEO of Associated Surgeons and Physicians & Women’s Health Advantage, a multispecialty independent physician group. He also previously served as CEO of Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne.
