Monica Cintado has been appointed senior vice president of development for Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.

Ms. Cintado first joined HCA in 1993 and spent six years in operations and international development, according to a company news release.

She later served as senior vice president of development at United Surgical Partners International before returning to HCA in 2015 as vice president of development. She took on leadership of the corporate development team in 2019.

In her new role, Ms. Cintado will lead HCA’s enterprise development strategy, focusing on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and strategic investments, the release said. She will also oversee market analysis, partnerships and real estate planning.

She succeeds Joe Sowell, who is retiring after more than 15 years with the organization.

HCA operates 190 hospitals and about 2,400 ambulatory care sites — including surgery centers, freestanding emergency rooms, urgent care centers and physician clinics — across 20 states and the U.K.
