Here are six things to know about Mr. Schreiber.
1. He comes to Empire, New York’s largest health insurer by membership, from Anthem BlueCross and BlueShield Plan in Wisconsin, where he is currently president.
2. During his tenure as president of the Anthem BCBS Plan in Wisconsin, the plan saw significant membership and financial growth, and was recognized by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association as the fastest growing BCBS Plan in 2010, according to a news release. Mr. Schreiber also successfully led enterprise-wide projects focused on growth, retention, health system collaboration and cost-of-care initiatives, officials said.
3. Mr. Schreiber also previously held various executive management positions at UnitedHealth Group and Aetna.
4. In his newest role with Anthem, Mr. Schreiber will be responsible for managing the Empire’s small and large group and individual business, including sales, provider relations and contracting, care management, underwriting, product delivery and regulatory and customer relationships, officials said. He also will oversee Empire’s long-term strategic direction and work with elected officials and thought leaders to improve the health of New Yorkers.
5. Mr. Schreiber will begin work with Empire Dec. 28.
6. He succeeds Brian Griffin, who was appointed president of Anthem’s commercial and specialty business division in September.
