Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare is undergoing leadership structural changes to become a more unified team.

Joon Lee, MD, CEO of Emory Healthcare, is expanding his role to become executive vice president for health affairs of Emory University and vice chair of the Emory Healthcare board of directors on July 1. He will continue to serve as CEO of the health system and oversee future growth opportunities.

In his new role, Dr. Lee is responsible for the health system’s academic health sciences center, which is focused on research, training and innovation.

“It’s a privilege to lead this extraordinary institution at such a pivotal moment,” said Dr. Lee. “Together with our teams, we will elevate health across Georgia and far beyond, expanding discovery, delivering compassionate care and driving innovation that transforms lives.”

Emory also named Christopher Augostini executive vice president of business administration for Emory University, CFO for Emory Healthcare and Emory University. His role is expanded after being hired in recent months as Emory’s executive vice president and enterprise COO.

Emory University’s current executive vice president for health affairs Ravi Thadhani, MD, is stepping down to pursue other opportunities. He is also vacating his role as Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which he held since January 2023, but will remain an adjunct professor at Emory’s department of medicine.

During his time at Emory, Dr. Thadhani helped sharpen strategic focus, expand access and strengthen financial resilience of the organization, according to a news release. He led the school of medicine and nursing school to high national rankings and was at the helm of developing Emory Hillandale Hospital as a “hospital of the future.”
