Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare has named Oscar Marroquin, MD, as chief administrative and operating officer, effective Oct. 1.
In the newly created role, Dr. Marroquin will be responsible for care quality, operational efficiency and alignment across Emory Healthcare and its parent organization, Woodruff Health Sciences, according to an Aug. 5 news release.
“Oscar brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding as a physician leader and health system executive in the forward movement of academic health systems like ours,” says Joon S. Lee, MD, executive vice president for health affairs of Emory University and CEO of Emory Healthcare. “This significant appointment will support our process of continuing to modernize our operating model and deliver on our commitment of improving lives and providing hope.”
He joins Emory from Pittsburgh-based UPMC, where he currently serves as executive vice president. During his two decades at UPMC, Dr. Marroquin held leadership roles including president of the physician services division where he was responsible for 5,000 employed physicians, and chief healthcare data and analytics officer.
Emory said Dr. Marroquin’s experience spans physician performance, clinical integration and large-scale data operations, including developing a systemwide clinical data warehouse during his time as analytics chief.
