Dr. Lozada and Mr. Maher will oversee clinical care at DMC’s Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital, all based in Detroit.

Dr. Lozada most recently served as senior vice president and chief physician executive at St. Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, Mo. An anesthesiologist, he completed a fellowship in neuro-anesthesiology at Rochester, Minn-based Mayo Clinic and holds an MBA from Durham, N.C.-based Duke University.

Mr. Maher was previously CNO at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, a 631-bed teaching hospital with Magnet designation. He holds a master’s degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.

Some DMC hospitals have faced patient safety issues recently. In November, Harper University Hospital was cited by CMS for several infection control issues, including insects in its intensive care unit. Hospital officials said they had taken action to resolve the issues in a Nov. 21 response to a CMS inspection report.
