University Hospitals selects chief academic officer: 4 things to know

Cleveland-based University Hospitals named Mukesh K. Jain, MD, chief academic officer, effective Jan. 1.

Here are four things to know:

1. Dr. Jain most recently served as chief scientific officer at UH and Harrington Discovery Institute, as well as chief research officer at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. He is continuing to serve in these roles.

2. He is past president of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and a member of the National Academy of Medicine.

3. Last year, he received a $9.6 million grant from the American Heart Association’s Allen Initiative in Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment, a new collaborative funding initiative.

4. In his new role, Dr. Jain will oversee the academic efforts of UH as well as the full spectrum of research and educational efforts.
