Tony Esposito will step down as CEO of Upland, Pa.-based Crozer Health, effective April 18, a spokesperson for the system confirmed in an email to Becker’s.
Mr. Esposito has been with Crozer for more than five years and was appointed CEO in July 2022. Greg Williams, president of Prospect Medical Holdings’ East Coast operations, will serve as interim CEO.
“We are grateful for his leadership and commitment to our hospitals, patients, physicians and healthcare providers,” Crozer said in a statement. “Our focus remains on providing high-quality and personalized care to our patients and the Delaware County community as we move ahead.”
Mr. Esposito’s departure comes as Pennsylvania stakeholders continue efforts to keep the health system’s two remaining hospitals — Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park — open. Prospect, Crozer’s for-profit owner, filed for bankruptcy in January and has begun cutting services and offloading portions of the system’s operations.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System plans to assume the leases for some of Crozer’s medical offices. Los Angeles-based Prospect said the $5 million Penn Medicine agreed to pay would postpone the closure of Crozer-Chester and Taylor hospitals for up to 10 days, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based Main Line Health has agreed to take over labor and delivery services provided at Crozer-Chester. Additionally, Crozer plans to close the home care and hospice line at Taylor Hospital by early June.
