Jeffrey Sanders has been appointed interim president of Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I., effective Sept. 29.
Mr. Sanders will provide executive leadership while the hospital searches for a permanent president and COO, according to a Sept. 29 hospital news release shared with Becker’s. He will succeed Kent President and COO Paari Gopalakrishnan, MD, who was named president and CEO of Towson, Md.-based GBMC HealthCare.
Mr. Sanders brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, most recently serving as president of Portland-based MaineHealth’s Southern region. In that role, he oversaw Maine Medical Center, a 700-bed academic medical center and the state’s only children’s hospital, and Southern Maine Health Care, which includes a 135-bed rehabilitation hospital.
At MaineHealth, Mr. Sanders led a $179 million capital campaign, advanced facility modernization plans valued at more than $500 million, and guided the $3.5 billion system through several clinical and governance initiatives.
Kent Hospital is a 359-bed acute care facility and Rhode Island’s second-largest hospital. It is part of Providence, R.I.-based Care New England.
