During his tenure, the hospital grew from a facility with a net worth of $60 million to a system with a portfolio of more than half a billion dollars and an AA- bond rating, said William Petasnick, the system’s president and CEO, in a written statement. Mr. O’Connell’s achievements also were recognized by The Business Journal of Milwaukee when he was named a CFO of the year in 2008, according to a Froedtert press release.
O’Connell also played a role in Froedtert’s purchase of Doyne Hospital’s buildings from Milwaukee County in 1995 and the development of partnerships with Community Memorial Hospital in 2001 and St. Joseph’s Hospital and the West Bend Clinic in 2008. Froedtert has hired a national search firm to find O’Connell’s replacement.
