18 latest hospital, health system executive moves

The following hospital and health system executive moves were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last week. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Money Atwal, CFO of Honolulu-based Hawaii Health Systems Corp.'s East Hawaii region, will be taking an extended leave of absence.

2. Claus von Zychlin, CEO of Columbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel Health System, has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer, and will take a three-month medical leave for treatment starting in October. In his absence, Roger Spoelman, CEO of the western Michigan region for the system's parent company, Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, will serve as interim CEO.

3. Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles hired Amit Mohan as CEO.

4. John Votto, DO, will retire Oct. 1, 2016, after 18 years as president and CEO of New Britain, Conn.-based Hospital for Special Care.

5. Paul Skowron was named permanent CEO of Clinton, Ill.-based Dr. John Warner Hospital.

6. Jeff Lingerfelt was named CEO of Geneseo, Ill.-based Hammond-Henry Hospital.

7. Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services hired Linda J. Grass as CEO of Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pa.

8. Boston-based Joslin Diabetes Center named Peter Amenta, MD, PhD, president and CEO. The move came about a week after John L. Brooks III stepped down as president, CEO and member of the board of trustees at Joslin.

9. Timothy J. Walsh, president and CEO of Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital, will retire in April.

10. The New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. has named Balvindar S. Sareen, MD, CMO of HHC Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx.

11. Arkansas State Rep. Joe Farrer (R-Austin) resigned in protest from his job as interim CEO of Jacksonville, Ark.-based North Metro Medical Center.

12. Victoria Alexander-Lane, CEO of Bishop, Calif.-based Northern Inyo Healthcare District, is no longer at her post.

13. Tom Thompson resigned as president and CEO of Moses Lake, Wash.-based Samaritan Healthcare.

14. Robert Shroder is retiring after 13 years as president and CEO of Mercy Health's Youngstown (Ohio) Market.

15. Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minn., and Elbow Lake, Minn.-based Prairie Ridge Hospital and Health Services announced the addition of Lawrence Blue as CEO of Prairie Ridge.

16. Two health system veterans will take the helms of several Bon Secours Richmond (Va.) Health System hospitals. Mark M. Gordon, CEO of St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Va., was named CEO of three Bon Secours hospitals: Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Va., Richmond (Va.) Community Hospital and Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, Va. Francine Barr, vice president and COO of St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, was promoted to CEO of St. Mary's Hospital.

17. Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health, part of St. Louis-based Ascension Health, announced two leadership promotions. Don King, who previously served as COO of Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas West hospitals, both in Nashville, Tenn., will now become president and CEO of the two hospitals. Bernie Sherry, who took over the role of president and CEO of Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas West hospitals in 2013, will now become COO of Saint Thomas Health.

18. Barton Health in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., selected its CMO, Clint Purvance, MD, as the health system's new president and CEO.
