Records for disability compensation could conceivably be delivered in 7-10 days under the new pilot system, compared with the current average of 40 days. The contractor would retrieve the records from the physician’s office, scan them into a digital format and send the material to VA through a secure transmission.
The pilot will involve 60,000 record requests at regional benefits offices in Phoenix, New York, St. Louis, Portland, Ore., Chicago, Anchorage, Alaska, Indianapolis, and Jackson, Miss.
