Prior to his appointment, Dr. Walsh was senior physician executive for the system. UTHealth officials created the position to maximize the university’s investment in EHRs, according to a statement. His duties will include working closely with UT Physicians, the faculty group medical practice at UT Health’s Medical School, as it goes through the process of purchasing a new health information system. Additionally, Dr. Walsh will coordinate IT initiatives with the UTHealth vice president and CIO, Rick Miller.
Before joining UTHealth, Dr. Walsh held medical information management positions, including CMIO, with UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria, Ill. He is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, the American Association for Physician Leadership and HIMSS.
