Here are four things to know.
1. The division of health informatics is in Weill Cornell’s department of healthcare policy and research. The division focuses on understanding how biomedical big data affects healthcare delivery.
2. Dr. Pathak will be tasked with expanding the health informatics division through research and educational activities. He hopes to build strong partnerships between health informatics researchers and clinical investigators at Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University, Cornell Tech and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
3. Prior to coming to Weill Cornell, Dr. Pathak was a professor of biomedical informatics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He also served as the director of biomedical informatics at Mayo Clinic’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
4. “Under Dr. Pathak’s leadership, the division will forge new relationships with Cornell Tech and the Caryl and Israel Englander Institute for Precision Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine so that big data and technological advances are being utilized at the highest level to support new models of healthcare delivery,” said Rainu Kaushal, MD, chair of the department of healthcare policy and research at Weill Cornell.
