ONC, CDC pilot program allows parents to access vaccine records online

The ONC and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have partnered to develop pilot programs for parents to access their children's immunization records online.

The pilot program is part of the Blue Button Initiative, a federal program pushing providers to offer online resources such as patient portals to their patients.

The immunization program was launched in October 2013 in five states — Arizona, Alaska, Louisiana, Washington and West Virginia. The program will run through April 2016.

The ONC suggests providing parents with online access to immunization records can help reduce office visits solely to access official record copies and can serve as decision support tools to remind parents when immunizations are due.
