The tech industry has been steadily growing, as has education in the STEM fields. In September 2015, Microsoft launched a $75 million initiative to increase computer science education for all youth. Additionally, the tech giant in August expanded its parental leave benefits, offering new mothers up to 20 weeks of paid leave and partners 12 weeks of paid leave. Wired highlights how these two issues have become central to the Obama administration and the Democratic presidential candidates.

This year’s State of the Union address seeks to set a tone for the 2016 presidential election by highlighting the challenges the country will face in the next 10 years. “The First Lady’s guest list paints a clear picture of what, exactly, President Obama believes those challenges will be,” according to Wired.

Other guests of the First Lady’s indicate the President believes the upcoming challenges include opioid addiction, criminal justice reform, small businesses, renewable energy, the refugee crisis, healthcare reform, immigration and gun violence, according to Wired.
