In the past, Mr. Gingrich’s proposed a “brain science” program that included plans for EHRs. In August, he told The Hill that tapping the human brain for advancement in science would require, among other things, changes in the Food and Drug Administration, including increasing the use of EHRs, according to the report.
The brain science initiative that he announced Wednesday, however, made no mention of this technology, potentially because he wants to defend his spot as GOP presidential front-runner, according to the report.
Republicans, including Florida Governor Rick Scott, have opposed EHRs due to privacy and cost concerns.
