Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health is partnering with identity verification company CLEAR to simplify the check-in process for patients across its hospitals and care sites.
The health system announced in an Aug. 18 press release that it will use CLEAR’s identity platform, CLEAR1, through an integration with Epic’s EHR system. The tool will first allow patients to create or reset MyChart accounts by verifying their identity with a selfie instead of paperwork. Hackensack said the feature will later expand to kiosks for in-person check-in at select facilities.
Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, said in the release that the collaboration is intended to make registration “as simple and secure as CLEAR’s experience at the airport.”
The rollout is expected to begin with MyChart access and then move to Hackensack University Medical Center’s John Theurer Cancer Center, which would become the first cancer center in the U.S. to use the technology, according to the release. The Hackensack Meridian Health and Wellness Center in Eatontown, N.J., will also adopt the system before broader expansion.
