Google to focus lobbying efforts on healthcare issues, transportation

While Google and its parent company, Alphabet, outspent every other tech company on lobbying initiatives in 2017, none of the funds were used to lobby government agencies, according to a Bloomberg analysis.

The company hasn’t lobbied the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission or the U.S. Department of Justice since 2014. The last time Google spent funds to lobby the FTC was in 2013, the same year the agency launched a probe into its search function, according to Bloomberg.

Google is instead directing its efforts to lobby individual members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, who collectively maintain greater influence over privacy, cybersecurity and immigration policies Google utilizes to maintain its workforce and keep its business afloat.

The company’s strategic lobbying focus has also shifted to encompass increased spending on healthcare, aviation and transportation initiatives, the report states.
