Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine is the first health system to integrate David, a generative AI clinical co-pilot developed by Tempus, into its electronic health record platform.

Clinical, operational and technical teams from both organizations are customizing the co-pilot to the health system’s needs, according to a Sept. 4 news release shared with Becker’s.

David is designed to assist clinicians with tasks including natural language queries, pre-appointment summaries, intelligent note-taking, and post-visit documentation and planning. Through the integration, Northwestern Medicine will use core elements of Tempus’ AI infrastructure, enabling multimodal patient record support and deployment of novel AI agents.

The health system said it aims to ease administrative burdens and enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.
