Annapolis, Md.-based Luminis Health has restored its MyChart patient portal as it recovers from a cybersecurity incident, the health system said in a Sept. 29 update.

Patients can again use MyChart, which had been down since Sept. 1, to schedule appointments, request prescription refills and message providers. However, some patient notes, lab results and imaging results may not yet appear in the portal.

Luminis Health relied on established downtime procedures, including paper medical records, during the outage. Information from the downtime period is being scanned into MyChart as recovery continues.

The health system said the incident “did not affect the system that stores our patient records.” Its investigation, conducted with legal counsel and third-party cybersecurity experts, remains ongoing, and Luminis Health did not say who was responsible. If the investigation finds individuals need to be notified, the system said it will take steps in accordance with applicable requirements.

Telephone service, restored Sept. 16, remains available across all Luminis Health locations. Emergency departments at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center and Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center remain open, and surgeries continue at both hospitals and at the system’s ambulatory surgery centers. Some processes may take longer while certain systems remain unavailable, and patients may be asked to complete paper forms.

Luminis Health said it is testing systems for safety and quality as they are restored.
