“We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information … by exploiting a bug in an Instagram [application programming interface],” an Instagram spokesperson told CNN.
Instagram officials said the software bug has been fixed. In the notification email to verified users, which the company delivered Aug. 30, officials reminded users to apply two-factor authentication and unique passwords.
Instagram declined to discuss how many users were affected, according to CNN.
