Detroit-based Henry Ford Health notified federal regulators of a data breach that affected 1,984 individuals, according to a Nov. 26 filing with the HHS Office for Civil Rights.
The health system reported the incident to the agency’s breach portal as an unauthorized access or disclosure. The filing indicates the breach originated from a desktop computer. No additional details were provided in the public report.
“Protecting our patients’ privacy is a responsibility we take very seriously. We are doing everything required by law — and more — to address this incident, including mailing detailed letters to potentially impacted patients and offering credit monitoring at no cost to them,” a health system spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement to Becker’s. “We are committed to ensuring incidents like this do not happen again, and the employee responsible has been terminated.”
