Cerner CEO unveils next layer of Amazon partnership & 16 other health IT notes

Here's the latest roundup of stories about health IT companies, including Cerner, Facebook and Google.

1. Hema Budaraju, formerly a product management director for Facebook's health-related initiatives, has joined Google, where she will lead projects using Google Maps to fuel social and environmental impact.

2. Integris Health and Woman's Hospital will both deploy Health Catalyst's data analytics solutions to improve cost transparency surrounding patient care.

3. Ford's GoRide Health non-emergency transportation service is in the process of shuttering across the five regions of Ohio and Michigan in which it was available, with an expected end date of Dec. 13.

4. With the announcement that Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin have stepped back from their management positions to take more advisory roles in the company they co-founded, Google CEO Sundar Pichai now leads all of Alphabet, including its expansion into healthcare.

5. Allscripts made $200 million available in convertible senior notes as part of a private offering to qualified institutional buyers.

6. A patient filed a class-action lawsuit Nov. 29 against Solara Medical Supplies, claiming his personal and medical information is at risk after a data breach at the device company.

7. Beaver, Pa.-based Heritage Valley Health System has filed a lawsuit against Nuance over a 2017 malware attack that caused major disruption at the system.

8. Novartis is teaming up with Amazon Web Services to develop a cloud-based data analytics platform to improve the pharmaceutical company's manufacturing, supply chain and delivery operations.

9. Alignment Healthcare, a Medicare Advantage insurance company in Orange, Calif., partnered with Uber Health to provide nonemergency medical transportation options for its plan members.

10. Woodbury, N.J.-based Inspira Health and Philips announced a $50 million, five-year partnership Dec. 2 to standardize patient monitoring and foster innovation in diagnostic imaging.

11. As part of its collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Cerner is developing technology to target healthcare issues including high hospital readmission rates and clinical documentation burdens, according to the EHR vendor's CEO and Chairman Brent Shafer.

12. Cerner has developed a new platform using Amazon Web Services that supports data scientists in creating, deploying and managing machine learning models at scale.

13. Cerner announced on Dec. 2 that it has achieved its 500th patent: a new voice-assisted technology to support clinician documentation.

14. Athenahealth received the 2019 Gold Hatch Bowl and Silver Hatch Bowl awards from The Ad Club for the EHR vendor's State of the Smart marketing campaign.

15. GE Healthcare announced on Dec. 2 that it has signed a $100 million, multiyear agreement to deploy imaging and digital technologies across Affidea's diagnostic imaging services network.

16. Change Healthcare reported four large health systems have joined its cloud-native Enterprise Imaging Network.

17. Amazon Web Services announced Dec. 2 that it will be launching a voice transcription service for physicians called Amazon Transcribe Medical.
