Anthropic plans to soon release an advanced version of Claude that has given health system leaders pause over cybersecurity concerns.
Here are six updates about Claude Mythos:
1. The AI developer intends to introduce Mythos-level models to all its customers in the “coming weeks,” according to a May 28 news release introducing the firm’s latest update, Opus 4.8.
2. Anthropic opted not to release Mythos, its most advanced AI yet, in April after finding the model could autonomously detect and exploit cybersecurity vulnerabilities, some decades old.
3. The company enlisted major tech companies and cybersecurity firms to test Mythos and fix security flaws before its release as part of Project Glasswing, with health system CIOs pushing to be included in those conversations.
4. “Models of this capability level require stronger cyber safeguards before they can be generally released,” Anthropic stated May 28. “We’re making swift progress on developing these safeguards.”
5. Mythos has found 23,019 possible cybersecurity vulnerabilities as of May 22, according to Anthropic.
6. “Next, we will work with critical partners — including U.S. and allied governments — to expand Project Glasswing to additional partners,” the startup said in the May 22 update. “And in the near future, once we’ve developed the far stronger safeguards we need, we look forward to making Mythos-class models available through a general release.”
7. Mythos also scored lower on “misaligned behavior” such as deception or cooperation with misuse than its other new models (Opus 4.8 and 4.7 and Sonnet 4.6), Anthropic said.
