Several health systems have open CIO positions after previous executives departed or retired, with some organizations naming an interim IT leader.
Here are the health systems without a permanent CIO, as of late June:
— Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.): Previous CIO Cris Ross retired in 2024.
— Ardent Health (Nashville, Tenn.): Prior Chief Digital and Transformation Officer Anika Gardenhire, RN, departed for Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine in January.
— Wellstar Health System (Marietta, Ga.): Ex-CIO Bill Bellando joined Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger in early June.
— Seattle Children’s: Ellen Pollack, MSN, RN, has been interim CIO since March.
— University of Maryland Medical System (Baltimore): Vishal Jain has been interim CIO since 2025.
— Community Health Network (Indianapolis): Previous CIO Rick Copple departed in 2026.
— Memorial Healthcare System (Hollywood, Fla.): Ex-Chief Digital Information Officer Jeffrey Sturman joined executive search firm WittKieffer in 2025.
— Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: Wes Barnes has served as interim chief digital and information officer since mid-June.
— MultiCare Health System (Tacoma, Wash.): Scott Waters has been interim CIO since 2025.
— UC Davis Health (Sacramento, Calif.): John Cook has been interim chief information and digital health officer since 2024.
— Ballad Health (Johnson City, Tenn.): Previous CIO Pam Austin left in 2026.
— Albany Med (N.Y.) Health System: Scot Van Sickle has been interim chief digital and technology officer since early June.
— Children’s Health (Dallas): Prior CIO Chris Akeroyd departed for Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Health in 2025.
— Presbyterian Healthcare Services (Albuquerque, N.M.): Former CIO Keith Rivera left for Omaha-based Nebraska Medicine in mid-June.
— Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (Memphis, Tenn.): Ex-CIO Tina Haskins Smith departed in 2024.
— UCI Health (Irvine, Calif.): Scott Joslyn has been interim CIO since 2025.
