The downtown ER will close at 5 a.m. Tuesday while the new complex simultaneously opens. During the transition, patients admitted at the old ED will be transported via ambulance to the new complex.
The new ED will have 48 beds, which is 20 more than the old department. This will allow the hospital to treat specific conditions in a more specialized way, according to the report.
