Mission Hospital's $400M surgery tower to house over 400 beds

Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Hospital is making progress on a 12-story surgery tower that will house more than 400 beds, 220 of which are single rooms, according to a WLOS report.

The project will expand the hospital's emergency department to house more than 90 beds and add 20 beds to the hospital's behavioral health inpatient unit, said Sonya Greck, RN, MSN, senior vice president of patient safety net services and behavioral health at Mission.

The behavioral health unit addition will provide the hospital with a total of 78 beds for psychiatric and drug treatment patients. Clinicians will also be embedded in physician offices affiliated with Mission to assist patients struggling with depression or substance abuse, Ms. Greck added.

The hospital is anticipated to open June 2019.
