Blackfoot, Idaho-based Bingham Memorial Hospital opened a 3,500-square-foot geriatric psychiatric unit Jan. 22, ending two years of construction, according to East Idaho News.
The 10-bed unit will treat older patients who require attention for psychiatric conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety, grief and addiction.
"As our baby boomer population ages, the need for geriatric behavioral health services is growing," said Christine Harris, who will lead the unit. "We want community members throughout eastern Idaho to understand that, with the appropriate care, the behavioral health issues of our aging population are treatable, and recovery is possible."
