The health system plans to open four microhospitals in Wisconsin, including locations in New Berlin, Pewaukee, Oak Creek and Mequon.
Froedtert will own and operate the microhospitals in New Berlin and Pewaukee. Its other locations will be operated by a joint venture of Froedtert and Tandem Hospital Partners, a for-profit hospital operator in Houston.
The microhospitals, which are emergency departments with about eight inpatient beds, are expected to provide more patients access to Froedtert facilities and free up beds at Froedtert’s main campus in Wauwatosa, Wis.
“Changing the hospital model continues to be part of the necessary process of creating the health system of the future,” Cathy Jacobson, Froedtert’s CEO, told the publication.
