The $1.3 million expansion adds 7,000 square feet and at least 16 geriatric patient beds to the unit, according to the report. That’s in addition to the existing adult behavioral health beds.
“This new unit has 17 beds for patients 55 and older — that’s a growing population in this area that needs care,” HRMC CEO Rod Harkleroad told Smoky Mountain News.
As part of the expansion, the hospital plans to immediately add two more behavioral health physicians and 12 full-time support jobs, according to the report.
