12 recent hospital, health system construction projects worth $300M or more

As health systems look to the future, they are forced to make investments now to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

Here are 12 hospitals or health systems that recently announced construction projects worth more than $300 million in the past two months reported by Becker's Hospital Review.

1. New York hospital undergoes $500M makeover
A $500 million expansion project is underway at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

2. Part of a $1B expansion project: BJC Healthcare unveils 12-story patient tower
As part of a planned $1 billion transformation project, St. Louis-based BJC Healthcare unveiled its 12-story inpatient tower at St. Louis-based Barnes-Jewish Hospital and an expansion of St. Louis Children's Hospital Jan. 19.  

3. Utah Valley Hospital completes 1st phase of $430M renovation
Provo-based Utah Valley Hospital completed construction on a nine-story tower, which is part of the hospital's $430 million renovation project in January.

4. MetroHealth reveals details of nearly $1B capital project
Cleveland-based MetroHealth released details of its $945.7 million transformation plan for its main campus Jan. 8.

5. Mission Hospital's $400M surgery tower to house over 400 beds
Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Hospital is making progress on a 12-story surgery tower that will house more than 400 beds, 220 of which are single rooms.

6. Children's Hospital of New Orleans to construct behavioral health facility as part of $300M makeover
Children's Hospital of New Orleans will construct a 50-bed Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center as part of its $300 million systemwide expansion and renovation project.

7. El Camino Hospital budgets $398M for multipart construction project
El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif., is investing $398 million in a multipart construction project to upgrade its campus.

8. Medical University of South Carolina seeks CON to build $325M hospital
Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina is filing a certificate-of-need application with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for the development of a new $325 million hospital.  

9BayCare Health System to receive $308M makeover
Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System will invest $308 million to expand three of its existing hospitals.

11. Lucile Packard Children's opens $1.2B flagship facility
Palo Alto, Calif.-based Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford opened its new $1.2 billion hospital Dec. 9, which will now serve as its flagship facility.  

12. McLaren Health Care plans $450M replacement hospital
McLaren Greater Lansing (Mich.) is planning to construct a $450 million replacement hospital adjacent to East Lansing-based Michigan State University.
