The plans call for constructing a new behavioral health center at the hospital’s State Street campus in a space currently used for parking. Construction on the health center is expected to finish in fall of 2019.
“Children’s hospitals across the nation are struggling to meet the demands of child and adolescent behavioral health,” John Nickens IV, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital, told the Advocate. “When construction is complete, what Children’s Hospital in New Orleans will offer in terms of behavioral health will be among the best in the entire nation.”
The $300 million project also includes renovating the main hospital building, constructing a new outpatient pavilion and expanding the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit.
