11 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Eleven hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last two weeks:

1. Inspira Health to open $365M hospital next month
Woodbury, N.J.-based Inspira Health is slated to open its $365 million medical center in December.

2. $144M orthopedic specialty hospital coming to Wisconsin
Appleton, Wis.-based ThedaCare plans to build a $144 million specialty hospital for orthopedic, spine and pain treatment, according to the Appleton Post-Crescent.

3. OU Medical Center to complete $364M tower next year
Oklahoma City-based OU Medical Center is slated to complete its $364 million patient tower in about eight months.

4. St. James to open New York replacement hospital next year
Hornell, N.Y-based St. James Hospital plans to open its new 15-bed replacement hospital next March.

5. Health First to invest $600M to move hospital, build health villages
Health First, a community health system that operates four hospitals in Brevard County, Fla., plans to invest $600 million to build three wellness and health villages and move one of its facilities.

6. Valley Health breaks ground on $800M replacement hospital
Ridgewood, N.J.-based Valley Health broke ground last week on its $800 million replacement for its flagship hospital in Ridgewood.

7. Orlando Health buys nearly 3 acres of land in Central Florida
Orlando (Fla.) Health, a $3.4 billion nonprofit provider, has purchased more land in Central Florida.

8. U of Cincinnati Health's flagship hospital to get $221M revamp
University of Cincinnati Health is planning to invest $221 million to upgrade its flagship hospital, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

9. Barnes-Jewish to open new Missouri hospital Nov. 5
Creve Coeur, Mo.-based Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is slated to open a 64-bed facility to patients Nov. 5.

10. Michigan Medicine breaks ground on $920M hospital as employees protest parking plans
During a groundbreaking ceremony for Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine's $920 million hospital, two dozen nurses protested that plans don't include enough employee parking.

11. UPMC to build network of hospitals in China
Pittsburgh-based UPMC broke ground Oct. 28 on a hospital in Chengdu, China. It will be the first of five hospitals that UPMC will jointly operate with Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group.
