Dollar General recently announced that it would offer preventive care, urgent care and chronic condition management services to customers at three locations in Tennessee, with DocGo On-Demand in charge of operating the mobile clinics.

The program is a part of Dollar General’s 18-month plan to expand its healthcare product selection, according to the report.

The move also comes at a time of the rise in “retail healthcare” companies such as Amazon, Walgreens and Walmart.

But what sets Dollar General apart in this movement is that it can utilize its massive retail presence to serve underserved rural areas.

According to Dollar General, over 75 percent of the U.S. population lives within five miles of one of their store locations, giving it greater access to rural communities that have yet to be accessed by other healthcare providers and disruptors.

The company said it will look to expand the mobile clinics to additional locations, if customer satisfaction is met.
