'Health Services' coming to Google's smartwatch: 3 things to know

Google's smartwatch is revamping its health capabilities, with Google introducing Health Services to the latest Wear OS version, according to a Sept. 27 9to5Google report.

Three details:

  1. Health Services behaves as an intermediary to the various sensors and algorithms on the watch, according to data shared by Google developers. It provides apps with health, activity and exercise-related data. It's a background component that watch users don't interact with, according to the report.

  2. Health Services provides capabilities such as tracking exercises, managing sensors, and providing metrics for heart rate, calories and more. It will also help improve battery performance.

  3. Before adding Health Services, wearable apps had to connect to multiple sensors to configure them appropriately and use raw data to develop insights. Health Services allows apps to interpret data consistently and enable algorithms to run natively on the watch.
