The addition to the ED is the first part of a two-phase project. The second phase will include renovating 16,800 square feet of the existing ED, targeted for completion in early 2017, according to the report.

“In addition to increasing the overall ED space and treatment room size to accommodate today’s patients and caregiver needs, the project is designed with the goal of enhancing efficient flow and delivery of care for our patients and their loved ones,” said Becky Rice, UVMC president, according to the report.

The 26,300-square-foot addition to the ED includes larger treatment rooms to accommodate patients and their families; the addition of a public corridor that connects to the rest of the hospital; and medical imaging services.
