The ED will be in the Nashoba Valley region to help “fill the community’s critical needs and address their primary areas of concern,” according to a Jan. 22 statement shared with Becker’s.

“We understand the challenges that the closure of Nashoba Valley Medical Center has caused for the region, and we have been listening closely to the concerns of impacted patients and the legislators that represent them,” the release said.

Steward, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection May 6, also closed its Dorchester, Mass.-based Carney Hospital on Aug. 31. The two hospital closures resulted in a combined 1,243 layoffs.
