Columbia, Mo.-based Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital opened its new ICU Thursday, according to the Columbia Missourian.
The 12,842 square-foot expansion has been under construction for nearly two years, adding nurse calling and tele-ICU systems, as well as two additional beds. The ICU now houses a total of 14 beds.
The ICU expansion cost $9.92 million and is part of the hospital's 10-year revitalization plan.
"We've been needing more ICU beds for a long time, so this project has been in planning, in design and construction for quite some time now," said Lana Zerrer, MD, chief of staff at Truman Memorial, according to the Columbia Missourian.
