The Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology will also be renamed the Icahn Genomics Institute.
Mr. Icahn has been a trustee of the School of Medicine since 2000, and has made gifts for general medical research as well as specific research in genomics.
He most recently contributed $200 million to Mount Sinai’s $1 billion capital campaign, leading the campaign to surpass its goal one year early. His gift includes approximately $50 million already given and $150 million to come, according to a New York Times report. The gift is the largest in Mount Sinai’s history and among the biggest ever given to a medical school, according to the hospital news release.
