Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health has broken ground on a new hospital and medical office pavilion in Indian Land, S.C.

The development spans 84 acres, with 28 acres currently under construction, according to a Sept. 26 MUSC news release shared with Becker’s. It includes a 62,000-square-foot medical office building scheduled to open in 2026. This will be followed by a 50-bed hospital — MUSC Health Indian Land Medical Center — in 2027.

The project will cost approximately $300 million, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.

Services at the new campus will include OB-GYN, orthopedics, oncology, cardiology with rotating subspecialties, kidney transplant, primary care, imaging, a retail pharmacy, and physical and occupational therapy. Clinical support services will include pathology, laboratory and phlebotomy.

MUSC Health CEO Patrick Cawley, MD, said the expansion will bring care closer to home for residents in the growing Indian Land area, which is expected to see 7% population growth over the next five years.

MUSC Health is part of the Medical University of South Carolina, which operates with an $8.2 billion annual budget and a workforce of nearly 34,000 members.
