Erie, Pa.-based Saint Vincent Hospital began construction on a new Women & Infants Center, the second phase of its $115 million renovation project, according to GoErie.com.

The new center, costing $9.5 million, will be built on the hospital's fifth floor. It includes new labor, delivery and postpartum rooms along with redesigned nursing stations, an expanded triage space and a family-friendly reception area. The project will also renovate the lactation consult room, staff support areas and security unit.

During the construction, expected to last one year, Saint Vincent will continue to provide gynecological services.

"We are trying to improve how we deliver care for women," Christopher Clark, DO, president of Saint Vincent, told Go Erie. "We recognize the woman's influence on her family's medical decisions."
