Entrepreneur and philanthropist Tom Golisano has committed a combined $253 million to six children’s hospitals, creating an alliance designed to expand access to pediatric care.
Mr. Golisano launched the Golisano Children’s Alliance, uniting the six hospitals and four existing Golisano Children’s Hospitals, according to an Oct. 28 news release from the Golisano Foundation shared with Becker’s. The goal is to improve collaboration, share resources and expand care access.
The hospitals receiving first-time gifts are:
- Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford ($50 million)
- Penn State Health Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pa. ($50 million)
- University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington ($50 million)
- University of Maryland Children’s Hospital in Baltimore ($50 million)
- University of Vermont Children’s Hospital in Burlington ($25 million)
- WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. ($28 million)
Each health system separately confirmed their newly renamed facilities.
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center will be renamed The Golisano Medical Center at Connecticut Children’s, a spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. It is the single largest gift in the organization’s history, according to a health system news release.
Kentucky Children’s Hospital will be renamed Golisano Children’s at UK, and the affiliate network will become Golisano Children’s at UK-Affiliate Network, a health system release said. The $50 million donation is the largest in UK Healthcare’s history.
Penn State’s facility will be renamed Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital. It is the system’s largest gift since 1963, which led to the founding of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
In Burlington, the children’s hospital will be renamed Golisano Children’s Hospital at University of Vermont Health. The gift will be distributed as $5 million annually over five years, according to a system news release.
The hospital located inside the University of Maryland Medical Center has become the University of Maryland Golisano Children’s Hospital.
WVU Medicine Children’s will now be known as WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s.
The four existing hospitals in the alliance are:
- Golisano Children’s Hospitals at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center.
- Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y.
- Golisano Children’s Hospital of Lee Health in Fort Myers, Fla.
- John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., which will become the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in January.
